Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) Day, 27 June
On the 27th of June, the United Nations celebrates Micro-, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises Day, recognizing the vital role that these businesses play in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The United Nations also acknowledges the significance of MSMEs in supporting its organizations' procurement efforts.
Through its dedicated portal, UNGM aims to connect companies of all sizes with various UN organizations, thereby facilitating MSMEs' access to the UN market and its procurement opportunities. This exposure allows smaller businesses to showcase their capabilities, products and/or services to a global audience. By engaging with the UN and its agencies, MSMEs gain valuable experience and enhance their visibility, paving the way for future growth.
Are MSMEs represented on UNGM?
MSMEs represent a significant share of the UNGM supplier base, accounting for 87.6% of the UNGM supplier database. This highlights the significant presence and contribution of smaller businesses within the UNGM supplier base.

The majority of MSMEs are predominantly situated in developing countries, economies in transition, and least developed countries (LDCs), constituting 78.8% of all MSMEs.

Geographically, Africa, Asia, and the Americas are the primary regions where MSMEs are concentrated, representing 36.5%, 27%, and 20.5% respectively.

Kenya is the leading country in terms of MSMEs registered on UNGM, accounting for 6% of the total MSME registrations on UNGM.

9.3% of MSMEs are self-declared Women-Owned Businesses (WOBs), signifying a commendable representation of female entrepreneurs within the MSME community, surpassing the overall proportion of WOBs among all supplier registrations.

8.3% of MSMEs are self-declared Disability Inclusive suppliers. This higher concentration compared to the total supplier registrations showcases the commitment of these businesses to embrace and support individuals with disabilities.
